Update May 2013

Kippax in Bloom Update May 2013

Spring eventually arrived here in the middle of April, 5 weeks later than usual. The Yorkshire in Bloom Committee was forced to cancel the Spring Judging because of the terrible weather conditions in particular the late snow which had rotted lots of the spring bedding plants. Now our spring flowers are brightening up Kippax and it looks amazing.

Our volunteers have continued to work around our village as the weather has allowed. We have a few new projects to show the Yorkshire in Bloom judges when they visit us for the Summer Judging on the 5th of July. We have made some new beds around the Moorgate Pub and on Leeds Rd at the entrance to Nursery Close. We will have a 4th Tropical bed soon for an even greater wow factor as you enter Kippax from Selby road. Look out for some new planters on the High St and a gorgeous granite planter on Moorgate Rd that was purchased with money donated by the Ashgrovers following their Queens Diamond Jubilee Street Party.

We are running our Front Garden Competition again, look out for details through your door. Kippax in Bloom has been given some airtime in April on Radio Leeds not only once but twice. I was interviewed about the benefits of gardening and also about working to improve our village through being in the Yorkshire in Bloom Competition and I was happy to broadcast how beneficial this has been for our community.

Thanks to everyone for their support and if you can help us in any way please contact me in Pats Sweets on Tel 0113 2862283 or email psamykib@aol.com
