Who are we? - We are a group of volunteers who since 2002 have been working closely with all sections of our community to improve the environment of Kippax in a sustainable way. We regularly represent Kippax in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition where we achieved a gold award in 2010 and 2011. Twice now we have represented Yorkshire in Britain in Bloom (urban community category). In 2009 we achieved a SILVER award, then in 2012 we had our best result ever as winners of our category and being presented with a GOLD award.
What do we do? - We have created and maintain approximately forty flower beds throughout the town. Additionally we have a wild flower garden and many planters and hanging baskets which bring extra colour. Its not all about planting flowers and we are also involved with maintenance of public spaces through contact with the Parish Council, LCC and other groups, schools and businesses within the community
How are we funded? - Our major funding is from the Parish Council, grants - including a recent award from the Grassroots Leeds Community Foundation, and sponsorship. All the work is done by volunteers.
What are we up to in 2013? - We will be leading Kippax's entry in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
What about the future? – Our intention is to continue to maintain the areas that we have created and to develop new sustainable projects for the benefit of all the residents of Kippax.
How can you help? - There are many ways you can help ranging from planting and maintaining flower beds to displaying posters in your window to show that you support our work or maybe you like to consider sponsoring a flowerbed / hanging basket.
As a group we meet most Sundays for a couple of hours work then as the warmer weather arrives and things start to grow you will see us out and about at any opportunity we get.
